Changes to how international transactions are shown on your statement

For non-sterling transactions, made on an HSBC debit or credit card (i.e. foreign exchange and overseas transactions), we charge a Non Sterling Transaction Fee (formerly called an exchange rate adjustment) to all customers.

For debit cards, this fee is 2.75% of the amount of the transaction. For credit cards, this fee is 2.99% of the amount of the transaction.

Until November 2013 this fee was included within the exchange rate conversion, however this is now shown separately on your statement as a 'Non Sterling Transaction Fee'.

In addition, if you use your HSBC debit card to withdraw money at an ATM abroad, there is normally a Non Sterling Cash Fee (formerly an ATM transaction fee) of 2% (minimum £1.75, maximum £5) for all withdrawals.

However, if you are an HSBC Premier, HSBC Premier My Account or an HSBC Advance customer you are not charged a Non Sterling Cash Fee for using your debit card to withdraw money from an ATM abroad.

If you use your HSBC credit card (including the HSBC Premier credit card) to withdraw money at an ATM abroad, there is a Non Sterling Cash Fee (formerly a cash advance fee) of 2.99% (minimum £3) for all withdrawals.

You may be charged a fee by the ATM provider, but this will be disclosed on the screen before you proceed.

If you have any questions about these charges, please call our customer helpline on 08457 404 404*. Learn more about using your card abroad.

* Lines are open from 8am to 10pm every day except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Calls may be monitored or recorded.
